With close to 20% of the population living with chronic pain, the McMaster Family Health Team offers three pain management services.
Chronic Pain Management Group
The goal of this group is to teach participants the many non-pharmaceutical (without using medicines) means of managing daily activities despite the experience of pain.
An opportunity to learn new skills and to optimize skills that you have already learned to help you manage your chronic pain and achieve your goals.
The group has an inter-professional approach including input from an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, social worker, dietician, pharmacist, a family medicine pain consultant and a narrative medicine consultant.
Referrals to the group can be made by contacting our occupational therapist or speaking to your family doctor. The group runs four times a year, with each session running for nine weeks.
Osteroarthritis Rehabilitation Knee and Hip (OARKaH)
Learn self-management strategies for living with osteoarthritis of the knee and hip and attend free exercise classes.
Do you have painful knees and hips from Osteoarthritis?
Would you like to learn how to manage your pain with exercise taught by physiotherapists?
Then this 6 week program is for you!
An Assessment by a Family Physician with a specialty in medical management of Chronic Pain. Referrals for this must be facilitated through your Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner.
This service is for patients with acute, specific musculoskeletal disorders or peripheral nerve entrapments who would benefit from joint injections tendon fenestration and prolotherapy. Referrals must be facilitated through your Family Doctor of Nurse Practitioner.
